Re: Plagiarism

A few weeks has passed and now I believe I'm composed enough to actually explain my side of this. There are two sides to everything, yes?
I had applied a character a few weeks ago to a game because I wanted to see how he would work out, and also to subliminally entice an awesome RPer to play a character that was in the same canon as the one I apped. This all started when a very good of mine, who already played a character there and got in with another there, coerced me to join up with a canon-mate. So I apped two characters within that app period.
The first character I mentioned, it took me over a week trying to finish up the app because he had so much canon, dating back to 1964. The second character, I didn't have to worry about too much.
Working on that app, I knew I had a lot of things to go over and that meant putting together the resources that I could get my hands on. That meant getting out every single volume and issue that I owned (and believe me, there were lots of them), and looking up things on wiki's that pertained to that character. Again, it took me over a week to get an app together for this character. When everything was done and after at least three read-throughs and three more beta-reads by friends, I finally submitted an app that was worth over 3000 words of personality (with CR and history tied into it) and a fairly thorough explanation of why he should be a certain "sign." Overall, the application was quite lengthy. I submitted the application on the last day I could submit apps.
One day later, I was accepted. It was a little strange considering this character had canon dating back to 1964 (albeit having retellings along the way that dated into the '80s) and they (the mods of the game) didn't take much time. At the time, I thought nothing of it because I was more excited to finally be playing in a game with a character I've been wanting to place somewhere for quite awhile now. (The other character I applied was also accepted.)
Three hours later, I receive a notice from the mods stating that someone who was also an RPer of this character was "concerned" about the "quality" of my application (I had a copy of the app I submitted in the journal) and they said that I "plagiarized" my app for the first character. "Upon stringent review, we have enough evidence to support that your app was plagiarized" blah blah blah. End note was to not app into their game again since they don't tolerate plagiarism.
I was in complete shock of this. Did they just imply that I C/P'd an application? After I spent going through all my volumes, issues, and going through websites? Admittedly, there was another app that I did look at just to get a feel of how I should start the application but there was no way in hell I C/P'd that application. The application I wrote was twice as much as the one I referred to. And even then, that application sucked (my opinion, so this is subjective) so I decided to make it better by adding CR from canonical characters to further explain his personality.
Needless to say, I was pissed. Even moreso because the mods DID NOT PROVIDE PROOF of WHERE they got their evidence from. From that, I can concluded that this other RPer looked at my app, showed it to the mods and complained about it, the mods empathized with whoever this person was, and then proceeded to accuse me of plagiarism and drop me from the game. After all the work I did, after all the agonizing research that I did and the app I wrote, I get accused of copying someone else's application?
I confided in a very good friend of mine who also RPs and told them what happened. This person knew about the app I had been working on and the agony I had to go through of writing this lengthy application. I was about to send the canon-mate a message about what happened and this friend told me not to because they could be involved in kicking me out of the game. They further went on to say to wait for them to come to me and ask/talk about it. As of this day, that person has not come forward so that lead me to believe that maybe they HAD SOMETHING TO DO with my getting kicked out. I was also advised to put a private lock on my application to prevent further altercations so I did.
Whoever had anything to do with my getting kicked out of the game, I hope you're quite happy that you got what you wanted. I'm not sure why you did it, and I'm not sure why you even thought of doing it, and I'm still not sure why you believe that I plagiarized your app when I did not, but there you go. You and I can rationalize our own sides any way we want, but I'm sticking to my guns that I did not copy your application. There was no copy-pasta involved, and I'm pretty much certain that I did not copy your app word-for-word. I don't do that shit and that's not the kind of person that I am.
Take a look at it this way: If six different people apply for the same character (let's say Dick Grayson/Nightwing for example), they should all be relatively the same in theory. Showing an understanding in personality, CR with people from their canon, their enemies, and their quirks and what makes them tic. Of course, they all should be worded differently because we're all different. But generally, they should all mention the same things. If this happened to a game I'm modding, would I reject them all because they plagiarized from each other? Of course not, that would be utterly ridiculous.
To the mods who DIDN'T EVEN ASK ME FOR MY SIDE OF THE STORY, you have all shown an imminent lack of player trust. I was a new player and you immediately kicked me out without coming to me with this. If you're somehow reading this, you should be ashamed of yourselves. I'm a fucking human being, I can be talked to. I can be approached. But none of you have done that. In my opinion, this shows your lack of leadership and responsibility. As a mod, you should be able to approach your players with civility. Because of whoever had been involved with getting me kicked out of your game, I have almost ZERO interest and almost ZERO faith in the DW RP scene. And I had been so excited and had been dying to get back into it, and then you guys just spit on it. All because you all believed that I plagiarized an application I worked for over a week on.
If you somehow found this and you took the time to read this, I'd like to say thank you. It took me awhile to gather my thoughts but here they finally are. As I'm writing this, I'm not really mad anymore. Sure I'm still upset about it, but I guess you can say the storm has now calmed.
You'll also notice that no one can comment on this post. If you really want to talk to me about this, I implore you to please send me a PM on this journal. If I had left comments on, people are more than likely going to get out of hand and that's not going to happen. I've agonized about this entire ordeal enough as it is.
